Léon Beyer Pinot Noir Comtes d'Eguisheim 2003 33,50€; 13,5% abv
The scent, once it opens up after about an hour, is quite lovely. It shows pure Pinosity, obviously from a warm year but it isn't freakish like so many 2003s. It has attractive vegetal aromas and dark fruit. The palate is medium bodied, has sweet dark fruit and obvious Pinosity though it is rather tannic and low in acidity, but it stays together because it isn't packed too full of everything (but neither is it the stereotypical light Alsace Pinot). Despite coming from a year that I have uniformly disliked, this was a very pleasant drop. The only problem is the price which is about double that what I would pay for this quality.
+ tech q: how do I get a bit of space between the text and picture when I put the pic on one side?
