Mount Mary Chardonnay 2000
December 14th, 2008 | Category: Chardonnay, Yarra Valley
After the dissapointing bottle of mildly corked 2004 Mount Mary Chardonnay at last week’s big memorial dinner, I decided to crack another MM from the drinking box, this time with some more age on it. And what a revelation. Revealing a pleasing developed yellow/light green gold colour followed by an invigorating and intriguing, mildly reductive nose of oatmeal, grilled nuts, toasty oak and cottled cream over a somewhat submerged base of white peach and green melon fruit. Still relatively tight and focussed on quite a breathtaking palate, with more controlled oak than the bouquet, bright but not excessive acidity, finishing with elegance and quite long with some lovely minerality interdispersed amongst the grapefruit aftertaste. Extremely good oxidative/worked lees/tightly structured style that should last for another five years or so. 93 points. Quality cork closure. 13.0% A/V
