WTN: Quinta da Alorna Reserve White 2006

by Bruce Hayes » Fri Dec 19, 2008 10:37 am

Vinhos Regional Ribatejo

A blend of Arinto and Chardonnay.

Light gold in the glass.

Spicy, citrus and floral nose.

Bursting with fleshy citrus fruit, orange, lemon, tangerine, peach, green apple, spicy, good refreshing acidity, thick, viscous, rich, honeyed, lightly creamy.

Spicy and tangy on the mouthwatering finish.

A very classy, rich and delicious wine.

Purchased at $17.95 (Canadian).

Thanks for your frequent reports on all these excellent Portuguese QPRs! If I were the Portuguese consul in Toronto, I'd condecorate you!

My pleasure As you have noted, I have long turned to Portugal for good, inexpensive whites and reds.

Lately we have really enjoyed a number of Portugese wines purchased as inexpensive daily drinkers. Some of the native grape varieites are delightfully different and the winemaking can be quite solid for the money. While I have been a fan of the red varieties for some time, we recently had a couple whites that very fresh and unique: Luis Pato's Maria Gomes and a very cheap Dao from Quinta do Cabriz (a blend of 4 varieties; the red is nice too) - the later costing only $6!
