My wine is in danger !

by Ben Kfir » Sat Dec 27, 2008 11:40 am

Eleven missiles hit Ashkelon, my city, from Gaza strip since noon today,
six of them inside the residential area.
I do not care about myself and even though I have a shelter in the basement of my home
I never run downstairs every time that I hear the siren yelling.

The Idea about so many dead and wounded people (of both sides) makes me sorry
but the worries for the wine in my (not protected) fridge make me crazy.

Can you not move your wine fridge into your shelter? ;) On a more serious note, I hope it all calms down quickly.
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

Ben's 'wine fridge' is a massive cupboard built into most of one of the walls of his house and maintained at appropriate temperature and humidity by a custom-made cooling system. So moving it is not feasible, and Ben has turned down umpteen invitations from his many friends to come and stay, We hope that this is over soon, and that Ben and his wines stay safe.

Ben, and all affected by this most current turbulence ongoing in and around the Gaza. It is with a heavy heart, and if truth be told, non understanding, that I read of the terrible times. If only all peoples could sit down with a good bottle of wine and work out their differences, but of course that is not going to happen. I will join with you and many others praying that all non combatants (and your wine ) will remain untouched buy the explosions.

Yes, I'm a firm believer that the only people that benefit from violence are those for which peace would result in redundancy and obsolescence (physically, politically and socially).

I very much hope that the majority of calm rational voices can find a voice over the clamour for retribution and revenge.

Ben
I do hope that all you hold dear remains safe from the violence.

What chilling words to read; most of us will never know the terror you must be feeling. But gosh, Ben, your wine is replaceable, you are not. Stay safe--if anything, move a few of your most precious bottles down into your bunker but whatever you do, don't lose your life protecting your wine.

Suddenly, my worries of fluctuating cellar temperatures seem very tame.

Take care of yourself, Ben. Best of luck.

Eleven missiles hit Ashkelon, my city, from Gaza strip since noon today...

Ben,

I'm happy to say that missile fire is a problem that I have never had to contend with. Please make sure that you and your family remain safe. Grape juice is replaceable.

Are you able to put most of your wine at, or near floor level in your storage unit so that you don't have to worry about it falling? That may at least help mitigate potential damage.

Be well.

I see pictures of young people in Gaza fleeing burning buildings and the tears I can understand - it's the pictures of children who don't cry anymore that worry me the most. I look at my kids playing games outside and try to understand what's happening. That Ben and his wine should bring this reality so close to home is remarkable.

So this is a case of, no news is good news? Just a few days before Ben posted his message, I saw a photo in the WSJ of a camo'd militant and his row of missiles set up in Gaza, aimed at Israel. I didn't make the connection at the time that those exposives were possibly targeted at some of Rogov's contingent. :(

Robert,

The media here has a more balanced point of view.

Best regards,
