WTN: A nice Valpolicella Ripasso

by Tom N. » Sat Dec 27, 2008 8:45 pm

A nice deep ruby red with a slight fade to orange red on the rim. Plummy raisins on the nose with a hint of oak. Midpalate of acidic purple fruit and nice smooth tannins. A long finish of tannic fruit. Definitely a food wine as the acidity was definitely a bit strong at first. Probably should have decanted this wine for about an hour before drinking because the taste profile was much fruiter (plums and raisins) and earthier after an hour. A bit tight at opening.

Match with homemade lasagna really nice especially with the tomato sauce. Best match was with the italian bread dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar and spinach sauteed with garlic and sprinkled with balsamic vinegar.

Wine: 2003 ripasso valpolicella by Corte Majoli 13.5% abv.
