2005 Avalon, California, Cabernet Sauvignon ($9.99 NH Liq Store). Alcohol level: 13.5%. They didn't have the Napa, so went with this one. Not a bad wine at all.

The wine gives you both red and black fruit on the nose and upfront. More fruit along with smoke, chocolate, and oak cross the palate. The tannin is smooth, and the finish lingers some.

Matched it with Tenderloin steaks in bacon rasher broiled with EVOO and Morton rub; candied sweet potatoes, and peas. The steaks were served on a bed of onion, fennel bulb, and other goodies. A very nice New Years dinner.
