I've no background to go on for this odd bottle picked up recently. Cellartracker notes suggest this wine is a short-medium term wine.
1998 Hedges Family Estate Three Vineyards - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Red Mountain (1/7/2009)
In appearance, this is showing red-garnet and some age at the rim.
On the nose the cabernet sauvignon is perhaps prominent, along with a touch of smoke/earth and some integrated oak. Fruit still seems in good shape.
On the palate, it shows good balance of mid-weight. The fruit is indeed still doing well, acidity is supportive. There seems to be a definite rounding out from the merlot, removing any trace of austerity. If anything though, it feels a little too successful at rounding it out (perhaps this would have been a better feature in it's youth).
Overall a more than decent effort, but nothing strikes me as profound (not every wine needs to be though!)
