WTN: 2000 St Cosme Gigondas

by David Glasser » Wed Jan 07, 2009 11:40 pm

2000 St Cosme Gigondas: Dark red, lightening at the rim. Forward nose dominated by earth, herbs, smoke more than fruit. Medium body, smoke, earth and herbs follow through on palate with dark cherry/berry fruit, nice balance, soft tannins, short to medium finish. Should hold a few more years. Very good to excellent.

I understand that these Cosme wines can be for the long haul! Prices here are obscene naturally.

I think this one will go another 3-5 years, perhaps more. The 2000 was only $18 on release, very good QPR. Current releases are closer to $30 - still not too bad.

St. Cosme was a full participant in the glorious 1998-2001 run in the Rhone. All my '99s and all but one of my '98s are gone now, but the 2000 and 2001 are still lurking in my cellar mess.

The 2000 has generally been precocious and approachable throughout it's life.
