WTN: Chateau de Gourgazaud 2006

by Bruce Hayes » Sat Jan 10, 2009 3:22 pm

Minervois.
A blend of Syrah-Mouvedre

Black in the glass.

Earthy, leather, cherry and raspberry on the nose.

Medium weight, tangy, earthy, leather, raspberry, spicy, red licorice, tobacco, turning quite hard and bitter with time.

A hard and bitter finish.

Was quite disappointed with this wine, it used to be a regular with my Dad and I have many fond memories of drinking a bottle with him.

Purchased at $12.30 (Canadian).

I have had this wine twice in the last year, Bruce. First time, about 14 months ago, I quite enjoyed this, finding it a wine of real character. I tried it again a couple of months ago and I was disappointed. It didn't seem like the same wine (I recall some of the same bitterness/harshness as you experienced). I can't imagine that a year of time coudl so negatively affect the wine...perhaps a different batch? I purchased mine two bottles about 1 year apart, so I suppose that it is possible.

Cheers,
Norm
