Ra Nui? Never heard of them!

Here`s one for all you NZ SB oficiandos!!

WTN: `06 Ra Nui Sauvignon Blanc, Wairau Valley.

SC, 13.5% alc, very limited allocation here in Alberta. $23 Cdn, cellared one year or so.
Website mentions " some minimum juice saw Fr. oak barriques".

Color. Very very pale watery straw, hint of onion skin.

Nose. Initially shows some reduction but after 30 mins opens nicely. Classic grass, gooseberry aromatics, very distinct.

Palate. Zippy acidity, hint of some leesy character, acceptable richness. Not your tropical fruit salad style wine, more pink grapefruit and goose-gogs. Lime adds to the zest, appealing crisp freshness. Very good backbone, hint of sweetness, subtle passionfruit and pear complete to round out. Nice stuff!!

Ra Nui Wines had their first vintage of SB in 2003. The make some very good wine.
