Purchased at the Magnotta retail outlet for $11.95. Synthetic/artificial cork.
12.5% alc./vol. (a very balanced and decent level given today's fashion for high-alcohol reds). Deep cherry-garnet with a cherry/black hue; great saturation, even at the meniscus. Subtle nose of light cherry and old wood (this is barrel-fermented; probably it's old-fill wood); a slight lactic note and a bit of oak spice. Brisk acidity on the entry; tart mouthfeel but exceptionally well balanced and round; lovely presence on the mid-palate and good acid/tannin balance, as is customary in varietal Foch. No funk here, however; nothing torrefied or otherwise "wild" (though I welcome those aromas). Palate-cleansing; brisk and lively. Good, balanced finish. It will continue to aerate and evolve in the open bottle and by day two, should be nice and velvety.
A good go-to Ontario red and one of my long-time favourites, it went well with roast beef.
