- 2002 Louis Guntrum Oppenheimer Schützenhütte Riesling Auslese - Germany, Rheinhessen (1/13/2009)
20,60€; 8,5% abv; 76g/l RS & 8,5g/l acidity according to label (80g/l RS & 8,3g/l acid according to Alko's lab tests). Light gold. A very pleasant scent of pure Riesling: lime and brown spices. It is perhaps a bit evolved for a 2002. Pleasantly steely, with the sugar and acidity hiding behind each other (MC Escher should have drawn the paradoxical structure of this wine). Not terribly long, but as it is one of the very few traditionally styled German Rieslings available here, I'm not complaining - especially since it is enjoyable. Not profound, but not all wines need to be.
