2004 Jacques Puffeney Arbois Vieilles Vignes

by SteveG » Tue Jan 13, 2009 8:31 pm

A wondrous wine! Pale red like Beaujolais, a whiff of fresh leaves and berries. An intoxicating confluence of lightness and intensity, black berries, plums, a bit of cedar and resin on the palate, and a long, slightly spicy finish. A blend of poulsard, trousseau and pinot noir, We enjoyed this wine serendipitously with sauteed red peppers and leftover penne ragu. I have no idea whether it will age well or how it will change, my first tasting of this sort of wine.

Despite the lightness of Jura reds, from good producers (like Puffeney) they age magnificently for 5 - 10 years, sometimes longer. The fruit will fade (or become more jam/jelly like) and the earthy, spicy minerality may increase.
