Some day I will be able to see that we have moved beyong RS as an indicator of pradikat. The zippy, refreshing characteristics that you refer to are the hallmark of kabinett. The RS level is just an artifact of balance. If there was less the wine might become shrill with age.

Sorry to be a pedant in your thread. I would just like to move past the whole sugar thing.

I agree on the RS thing as we all know that is not the basis for the pradikat system, but he did describe it as 'creamy' and 'mouthfilling' which are not necessarily 'typical' kabinett characteristics. At least to my understanding.

Of course in many situations words like 'creamy' and 'mouthfilling' are relative and in context of the wine, which is perhaps your point.

Rahsaan,

Good point, though I tend to think of creamy as something that develops with age, and can happen at virtually any pradikat level. Of course with Loosen, Vollenweider, and to an extent Christoffel, it happens on release to a degree with every pradikat level.

Just digging around in the cellar and have found the `01 Riesling Spatlese Halbtrocken. Guess, what the heck! Stay tuned.
