Your thoughts on Valley of the Moon wines?

by Dave R » Fri Feb 06, 2009 4:03 pm

I received an invitation to a wine maker's dinner featuring the wines from Valley of the Moon winery. I'm not familiar with the winery. What is your take on their wine?

They used to be pretty bad and their wine tasting room was horribly kitschy. Not sure if that last bit is a plus or a minus for you in terms of the winemaker dinner Fun Factor. Regardless, I wouldn't pay too much for the wines.

The dinner is at a restaurant so fortunately I will not have to deal with the kitsch.

Well others can chime in here with more in-depth knowledge, but my suspicion is that the winery showroom is indicative of the type of people who run the winery.

The wines have not been thought of highly in the past by most people I know. What's now? :?:

We went to the winery a few years ago--nice folks but the wine was...my Mother always said if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all, so I'll stop now.

They are wines targeted to the "processed, smooth, sweet, oaky, fruity, alcoholic" side of the market. No judgement is intended. :?
