Auckland Recs

Haven't been to Auckland for a while, and I was wondering what the best wine stores and restaurants (especially BYO) are right now? I'll be downtown, near the university, most of the time (early April).

My favorite wine shop in Auckland is Caro Brothers in Parnell. A very good selection of NZ wines along with a decent array of European/Oz wines. Phone number is 09 377 9974 and they will deliver.

John, I am assuming it was you who posted down under as JDSJDS. Assuming you have been following the discussion, whilst it may be abhorrent to think about starting one's wine exploration down under in a supermarket, for me teh New World at Vic Park now has to be the first stop. SueNZ's exploration that each location is owner operated explains a lot.

Looks like we've already communicated on the Auswine forum. I post there as SueNZ. Can't really add much to what I've already said there. If you are in Auckland for a month, then plenty to seek out.
Would be nice to see more restuarants allowing BYO in what looks to be like a recession.
Was at a favourite BYO - but on Auckland's upper North Shore - last Saturday night. This restaurant usually buzzes but it was very quiet and the taxi driver who took us home - and who arrived in record time - said it was quiet everywhere.
