Chateau de Lancyre has some fans on this board so after that great VV and a lovely Rose, time to consider the white which is a blend of 80% Roussanne, 10% Marsanne and 10%Viognier.

WTN: `07 Ch. de Lancyre La Rouviere, Coteaux de Languedoc.

Good natural cork, 13.5% alc, $23 Cdn and first tasting of the newly released `07. Think Bob H has some notes somewhere on earlier vintages?

Color. Medium straw, no green hints, looks inviting.

Nose. Citrus/lime, peach, floral, aromatic for sure. Hint of nuttiness in the background, more mineral tones on day 2 and could be some banana? Very appealing without the fruit salad stuff!

Palate. Always important to serve this type of blend not too chilled I think. Too cold, the acid seems out of balance and the excess chill certainly dulls the fruit tones.
Initial entry thought was tad too young, dry, minerals, nut tone on finish. As it opens shows some bracing acidity without any honey tones one will expect down the road! Unripe pear and white fruit to forefront, tough to know which food to match with this one. Acidity was less evident on day 2 (found some pink grapefruit) but nothing shines right now. Think another year will do for this one?

****** Roussanne from Calif seems to be from 2 camps, looking at Tom Hill`s notes. Dry like this one but more likely to have some tropical fruit edges from others. Maybe a Roussanne Open Mike in the summer will be of interest?

Food, we ended up with pork tenderloin wrapped in ham and served with bok choy. Ho-hum.

I had a Roussanne from those parts last weekend at the same meal as a Domaine de l'Ecu. Reminds me to post. I hope that I can read my scribbles.

Too right about excessively cold service of whites in general. The whites here were initially too cold in spite of a knowledgeable sommelier. They only spoke once I had warmed them up a little in my hands.

Tim, I was also thinking of decanting but passed. Think I will keep 2nd bottle a few years.

Nice report Doris! I haven't seen, much less had the 2007 of this wonderful little wine. I will of course, just haven't yet. I do have about a case of the 2006 and it will be fun to compare it to the 07 when I find it. I agree that a young rousanne or marsanne leave one wondering "is that all there is?" but give them a year or two and they start to come around. My 2002 Tahbilk marsanne is coming around very nicely and in a couple more years should be hitting it's peak. The 95 is drinking well still. Maybe I can do a small broken vertical of the marsanne this August at Mo'Cool. It's kinda nice to find a white wine that sells for less than $15 that ages and changes as well as rousanne and marsanne do. Funny thing I have 2 cases of the 2006 and haven't opened one yet. If I EVER get off wine probation (maybe in April) I can try one.
