Albert Mann Pinot Blanc Auxerrois, Alsace, France 2006 A$26
Pale lemon colour. Yellow (proper autumn) apple or pear, cream, custard powder, cinnamon/spicy wood (old oak) with a touch of cheese and vegetal funk underneath. The palate’s got more body than expected – it’s almost unctuous, and really quite creamy - yet with great underpinning zing, and a wet marble finish. This is my style of Alsatian: lovely fruit profile with some underlying funk, some weight, stays interesting. I’d need to be in the mood for something fairly sweet/full to enjoy this to the full: one glass almost feels like enough, coz it’s fairly sweet. But this is a lovely wine!
