2005 d'Ardhuy Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Clous: One of the very few enjoyable 2005 burgs I've had, especially since they've started shutting down in the past several months. This has a pretty heavy whiff of brett for the first few minutes after I pop-and-pour it, but it blows off to reveal incredibly intense raspberry fruit- really, amazing sappy fruit for a minor vineyard in Savigny. A touch of toffee (but not obtrusive), a sprinkle of 5-spice power and mint, silken tannins and balancing acidity. The recent notes on Cellartracker indicate that this is shutting down, but not my bottle- this was open for business and outstanding. Really reflects the concentration of the 2005's compared to the 2006's: I love the 2006's and their pure red fruit, but this proves to me that when 2005 is singing it's going to be on a whole 'nother level.
$27. Outrageously cheap for great burg. If all the GC's I'd tried in the past few years had been this good, I'd be a much more contented man.
Tip-o-the-cap to Allen Meadows for this one.
