WTN: 2006 Paradis Casseil (Lafite Rothschild)

by Jenise » Wed Mar 04, 2009 6:38 pm

One of the most boring wines I've ever tasted. No depth, no character, not worth drinking.

From the website: Château Paradis Casseuil gets its name from the combination of the registered name of the main parcel of vineyards called “Vines of Paradise” and Casseuil county. We are not sure when this utopian title was bestowed, but it is not the kind of name that one looks to change. Château Paradis Casseuil is a former dependance of Château Rieussec. It underwent much of Rieussec’s troubled 20th century past. Taken under Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite)’s wing in 1984, Château Paradis Casseuil then included 14 hectares of vines. In 1989, the estate grew by 9 hectares, and chais were included in the heart of the Sainte Foy la Longue vineyard. Château Paradis Casseuil is now quickly becoming a reference for the Entre-Deux-Mers region.

wow. I liked the 2005 a lot more than this. But then, I can count on two hands my experience with White Bordeaux...so what do I know?

Brian, my note's about a red, not a white! (Obviously, neither of us were aware of the existence of the other.)

OOps. I obviously need a course in reading comprehension. I saw the name, read the word "utterly boring" and paid no more attention.

Oh boy, Jenise. My well-meaning research group gave me a bottle of the '05 for Christmas this year which duly sits on the "drink soon" rack. I've generally kept my hands off my '05s after tasting a number of '05s shortly after arrival, all of which were pretty damn tannic. I might make an exception in this case, as this doesn't sound like a wine to spend much effort or attention on.

Mark, don't despair. I heard the 05 was pretty good which is why I took a bite at the 06.
