WTN: 2007 Monchhof Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Spätlese

by Salil » Sun Mar 08, 2009 10:07 pm

I'd heard/read some very positive notes on the Monchhof wines recently and particularly after David Schildknecht's reviews on Robert Eymael's 06s, was quite keen on trying some. Got this from Hart Davis Hart recently during a sale, and unscrewed a bottle last night with dinner. Very happy I got this, and will have to look out for some more Monchhof's wines.

Really lovely aromatic profile with lots of spices over orange, peach, strawberries and slate. Rich and faintly creamy on the palate with bright orange and peach flavours, some tropical fruit notes emerging with time and good acidity balancing the weight and creaminess. Delicious to sip on its own and with food, with leftovers holding up very well this evening.

Glad you enjoyed it. Monchof is one of those producers I have never taken a liking to.
