SPOILED: 2000 Frederic Magnien 1er Cru Chambolle-Musigny

by ClarkDGigHbr » Tue Mar 10, 2009 12:16 am

I recently opened a bottle of 2000 Frederic Magnien Les Grunchers 1er Cru Chambolle-Musigny. To my absolute horror, only half the cork came out, and the piece remaining in the neck looked pretty nasty. After digging it out, I confirmed the wine inside was spoiled.

I'll bet a bottle with a healthy cork would have been simply wonderful. I'll never know, because this was my only one.

I feel your pain. I recently had to pour out 3 bottles of '99 JN Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet Maltroie 1er because of premox. If you don't already know of it, there's a somewhat useful site listing producers at http://oxidised-burgs.wikispaces.com/, and Frederic Magnien is clean (no listing for your wine, though).

There's no premox issue with the reds, just the whites.

I think some of the more radical premox elements have warned of problems with the reds, no?

I haven't noticed it myself, from the small samples I drink.

It was brought up once that I know of. Someone said "what about the reds" and proceeded to lump every bottle of disappointing Burgundy they had ever tasted into a list of premox candidates. The thread quickly died.

There have been multiple threads about the Loire and Alsace (especially Trimbach), but so far it looks like transport issues from what I can tell.
