WTN: 1982 Shafer Res. Cab.

After 3 previous bottles, finally a winner. With about a teaspoon of sediment and very dark purple color to the rim, the flavors were full of sweet and sour cherry. The cork was going to crumble with a screw pull so an ah-so was used but part of the cork still ended up in the bottle. All the bottles previously and this one had good fills above the shoulder but previous bottles were past peak or well beyond. No interesting secondary complexity (leather, cedar, etc.) but the fruit was still very evident. My last bottle and if more is available at this particular retailer who bought out a cellar ( I just bought these within the last year) I will pass, but for $20 (long story), not a bad gamble. I had previously e-mailed Doug Shafer and he claimed that this was before they had really got their reserve program figured out.
