Burgundy 2008?

by David from Switzerland » Wed Mar 25, 2009 7:08 am

We're currently being offered (I wasn't aware it's still being done) 2008 red Burgundy on subscription. Anyone know something on the vintage in general, specific appellations, specific producers, wines...? Thanks in advance!

Greetings from Switzerland, David.

Have not even seen any buzz on eBob. I'll check a little deeper though.

Hey David - I started a discussion on Beethoven's 9th in the Freinds & Fun forum. Your perspective would be most welcome.

Here comes the vintage summary, as I remember it, from RVF #527, Dec 2008/Jan 2009: The summer was neither particularly warm nor sunny and the rain in early September caused mould problems, but the vintage was eventually saved by better weather, and many vintners compared 2008 to 2002. In general, the whites fared better (good alcohol levels and acidity) than the reds (which tend to be light). And, as always, there were huge differences between individual parcelles and producers.

So, my friend, a perfect opportunity to get some elegant Burgundy à la 1970-80

Was going to ask you, thanks! Ever noticed, by the way, that descriptions of Burgundy vintages all tend to sound the same?!

Greetings from Switzerland, David.
