Last week David Bueker was kind enough to alert me to a sale at Table & Vine for the 05 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese. Went there on Friday to pick up some cheeses and grabbed a bottle of that (and the 07 Rotlay).
Popped open the 05 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Spatlese last night (had a couple more glasses today), and this is GORGEOUS. Continues my streak of wines with Selbach-Oster that really are delightful, dynamic and hit well above their price points. This one's still very open and showed beautifully the moment the cork was pulled. Wonderful nose; youthful apple, lime and peach aromas over notes of vanilla, aloe and minerals. In the mouth it's full bodied and chewy with a glossy texture showing lots more bright orchard fruit flavours over minerals, faint hints of honey and creamy notes at the back end. Finishes long with each sip making me want to gulp down another. Yum! At $20 an absolute steal.
