WTN: 'DR. L' Riesling 2004 QbA

by Bruce Hayes » Thu Mar 26, 2009 9:47 am

Mosel-Saar-Ruwer
Loosen Brothers

Light yellow in the glass.

Petrol, citrus and peppery on the nose.

Quite tangy, an incredibly refreshing and zingy acidity, juicy and fleshy lemon, lime and green apple, peppery, honeyed, light petrol, medium weight, a little residual sweetness, quite rich.

Citrus rind on the long mouthwatering finish.

A delightlful wine and quite gulpable.

Screwcap closure.

Purchased at $13.95 (Canadian).

I'm not a fan of the bottling, but will admit that in crisper, high-acid years it is much better. 2004 is the right kind of vintage for this wine.

Bruce,

The last time that I praised "Dr. L" people made fun of me (in a good way, of course). I've become a closet drinker of the wine that dare not speak its name - **cough**Dr. L**cough**. I have enjoyed several bottles to their 2004 vintage, but ran out last year. I haven't seen any Dr. L in the local shops recently.

I like Dr. L in some vintages (I found the '07 very nice, probably the best vintage of the last few I've tried) - more than a lot of Loosen's higher pradikat wines.

Coincidentally I drank the 04 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett last night, and once again I'm underwhelmed by a higher pradikat Dr Loosen wine. I want t like them - simply because its so fashionable to bash them - but I can't. Sound but boring.

Maybe I need to find the 07 Dr L.

Cheers

Andrew
