WTN: Rustenberg Chardonnay 2004

WO Stellenbosch

Dark yellow in the glass.

Oak, hazelnut, smoke on the nose.

Quite full in the mouth, viscous, pear, lemon, tangy acidity, very rich, smoky, vanilla-carmel, marzipan, a light bitter bite.

What was interesting about this wine was to witness its evolution throughout the course of the meal. While it started out big, thick and fat, with time the structure became a bit leaner, showing more of the tangy lemon and green apple, but still rich and delicious.

Tangy, lemon peel, peppery and metallic on the finish.

A very impressive wine.

Purchased at $22.95 (Canadian).
