TN: 2006 Domaine La Garrigue Côtes du Rhône Cuvée Romaine

2006 Domaine La Garrigue Côtes du Rhône Cuvée Romaine, $17.99: Showing good dark color, with earth, iron, black currant, blackberry and cola flavors and aromas; the Vacqueyras character is obvious here. Big, rich and chewy, with dusty tannins and excellent acids, and while it’s structured for at least five years in the cellar, it drinks well already with some time in a decanter. Interestingly, it shows none of the “international” flair that the 2003 version did, which is a good thing! A blend of declassified Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre from the Vacqueyras Estate’s oldest head pruned vines.

I have always liked this wine. In fact I prefer it overall to the Vacqueyras cinsidering QPR.

I tasted the 2007 a few weeks ago, and it's the best vintage of the wine since 1998 IMO.

Thanks for the feedback, David. I've heard good things about that 2007, but if it's here, the distributor won't release it until the '06 is sold out. I have an '05 Vacqueyras primed for tomorrow night's Red Wings' game. I found it priced at $20.99, and my retailer friend dropped it to $15.99. Such a deal!

Then I will do my part, George, and go buy up the 2006. I love that stuff. Got a case down in FL and drank it all up, and have a case waiting for me at Russo's in GR. Wonderful stuff. Hard to believe the '07 can be even better.

I've been really enjoying the 2007 lately. I'm getting it for as little as $11, which is excellent qpr.

Haven't gotten to my 2006 and 2007 Cuvee Romaine yet, I'm slower than youse guys, still slowly working my way through the last of a case of the 2005..3 bottles left..the wine has mellowed out quite nicely and is still a pleasure to drink.
Wine Library blew out several pallettes of it at $12/bottle

Thanks for the "welcome back" Jenise, geo and BobH. I spent most of the winter in FL and just got out of the habit of plugging into this great discussion group. We are now back in Grand Rapids, and I won't make that mistake again.

OW, it must be nice to be able (in this economy) to take a whole season off on vacation! As I said though, you are now back to work and it's good to see you. I suspect both you and Beth are proudly sporting your Florida tans!
