WTN: Duvergey-Taboureau Pommard 2006

by Bruce Hayes » Mon Apr 20, 2009 6:46 pm

I will be the first to admit that I know nothing about Burgundy, but I recently saw a couple of these bottles on sale, so I thought I would take a chance. Bad move!!

Rich cherry red in the glass.

Spicy, cherry, creamy and smoky on the nose, later changing to simply earthy.

Light bodied, cherry, raspberry fruit, earthy, very tangy, light spices, lightly floral, turning incredibly thin and drying toward the end.

Very drying, very tart, with just a suggestion of cherry and raspberry fruit on the finish.

Purchased on sale at $32.60 (Canadian) and nowhere close to being worth it. Needless to say, the second bottle is going back.

There's an old saying that the three most important things in choosing a Burgundy are Producer, Producer, and Producer. A bit of an exaggeration, but not much. Never heard of Duvergey-Taboureau. Pommard can be hard young, but this sounds awful. Glad you can return it.

FWIW: The label claims they have been around since 1868.
