WTN: Chateau Bonnet 2005

by Bruce Hayes » Tue Apr 21, 2009 6:41 pm

Andre Lurton
Entre-Deux-Mers

Rich yellow in the glass.

Light oak on the nose.

Medium weight, crisp and mouthwatering green apple, pear, lime, light honey, lightly oaked, very crisp and mouthwatering.

A mouthwatering finish.

Clean and refreshing.

Screwcap closure.

When my wife and I were starting out on our wine journey (and also starting out on our dating-marriage journey) we used to drink this wine quite a bit. Just a good, dependable, everyday white Bordeaux at a very responsible price. Now, some cretin at the LCBO, for reasons I don't understand, decided to delist this wine. I just checked and there are four lonely bottles left in the entire province. Goodbye old friend.

I'm glad to hear it's holding up. I had the 2002 at age 4 or 5 and it was in surprisingly good shape. I love the 2005 dry whites, I love Bonnet's whites, and I very much enjoyed the 2005 Bonnet. The 2006 is equally good, but in a different style. So sorry to hear you won't be able to get it anymore. My complaint is that over the past year or two (not sure when it happened), Bonnet went from $9 to $13 around here. I need to try the red sometime.

Bruce,
Sorry to hear. We are getting the '07 vintage now in Virginia. I still have 3 of the '05 left. They are still doing well. The Bonnet is a great value wine.

We are getting the '07 here also. I had a bottle and was very impressed. Layered, complex, and most interesting. Just what white Bordeaux can be! I went back and bought 4 more (part of a mixed case) and at $9 w/case discount, a real deal(should qualify as a Jenise "stimulus wine"). 12% ABV makes it even better. 60% Sauvignon, 30% Semillion, 10% Muscadelle. Even if you have to pay $10-$13 this is a compelling wine.
