A Pen for the True Wine Lover!

by Bill Spohn » Wed Apr 29, 2009 4:25 pm

Not in my price range, but for any well-heeled wine aficionados out there, what a nice birthday present (are you listening, Poopsie?)

Take a look at a couple of the pictures.

"Lambrou Pallarols LP1 Grapevine

We are pleased to announce the beginning of a working relationship between Pallarols and Classic Pens. Our aim is to create new and exciting sterling silver pens, art pieces to be used and enjoyed by their owners and which we hope will become family heirlooms. The first fruit of this working relationship is the LP1 Grapevine.

The Pallarols family have been the top silversmiths in Argentina for 250 years. They have created by hand a wide variety of sterling silver items, accessories and house ware such as pens, cutlery, decorated bowls and so on. The have made exclusive pieces for the Royal families of Spain and the Netherlands.

The LP1 Grapevine is a sterling silver high relief exclusive design created for Classic. The canvas is the sterling silver full size Legend 766 fountain pen, the same as for the CP8 Murelli Pens Flamme and Vannerie.

The sterling silver Legend 766 pens are produced by Aquila Brands in Italy. Once the Grapevine caps and barrels are completed by Pallarols, the LP1 Grapevine pens are assembled and quality controlled in our office in Los Angeles, California.

Juan Carlos Pallarols makes the cap and barrel of the pen (but not the ends) through established silversmith methods, as sometimes used in the jewelry industry. He creates each Grapevine design by hand so that each LP1 art pen is unique and a little different from the rest. A lengthy process of more than 40 hours each pen and requiring the highest degree of craftsmanship. The Pallarols passion and meticulous care create the Grapevine art pens to the highest quality standards, established by a few vintage fountain pens during the golden era of the 1910s and 1920s.

The LP1 will be produced in a strictly limited edition of 25 art pens world-wide. The pens will be available in September 2009.

List price: $9,000 each pen

Classic will market the LP1 Grapevine through its private and select Trade customers.
The LP1 Grapevine will be on exhibit at the Chicago Show this weekend and we invite guests who will attend to visit our exhibit for a personal presentation.

Looks beautiful, but is one actually meant to write with those things? Maybe it's just me, but the idea gripping a pen with all that silver work on it doesn't feel like a comfortable way to improve my already atrocious penmanship. Or is that kind of pen meant mostly to put in a case and admire?

I think it's meant to shout "Ha! I have so much money I can afford to blow 9 grand on a pen and not have to use it!"

Probably what people would be smoking if they were buying this pen.

That last picture is a replica one hitter meant to look like the $9000 pen because the cops would never think to unscrew the nib for your stash.

Add to that the skin discoloration that results from prolonged contact with silver and you've got about as impractical a writing device as it's ever been my misfortune to see. I think that your last statement captures the spirit of its creation.

Gosh, at only 9,000 dollars a pen, I think I'll buy a dozen!

Best regards,

Alex, Hi......

When the dozen are delivered please send me not a pen but the leaves in which they come wrapped.

Best

Do you think anyone writes any better with one of these? Let's see, with Silver at $US 12.41 an ounce, they're making a nice little profit, too.
