Indeed. I prefer the threads that talk about the threads that talk about Parker than I do the threads that merely talk about Parker . . . I think . . .

Oh, thank you for coming forward.

I thought I was the only one who finds it tedious.

It's almost as much fun as being in the audience at a chess match.

Completely in keeping with the spirit of this poll, does anyone remember when the only person in the universe who had a cell-phone was Captain Kirk? And what his most famous words were on that cell-phone?

And Kirk's order was always disobeyed. Scotty kept teleporting him back to the Enterprise. Never once in the entire series did he obey orders and beam Kirk a board.

It just doesn't apply to me at all. I am not involved in the wine business... I am just a consumer. I don't read or subscribe to anything resembling Parker. I just want to drink wine. I long ago realized that my tastes are not identical to Parker's and thus lost all interest in him. And most importantly I have little faith that anyone can truely put an objective score on a totally subjective experience.

I don't think Parker's ever claimed that his scores reflect anything other than his own subjective opinions. He does of course vigorously defend the validity of those opinions as a guide to consumers. Whether one can assign numbers of that level of precision to an experience as subjective as wine tasting is, IMO, debatable. But Parker, UC Davis, and a bunch of others think it's doable and valid.

It is approaching "cork vs. screw top" in terms of intellectual futility. Perhaps we need a generic "is not - is so" thread.

Am I the only person who finds the thread entertaining? Of course I like a good bear-baiting and there is nothing like a couple of scantily clad people wrestling in the mud! I hope the fun NEVER ends.

Can someone please start a poll about this thread too???

Drink wine.. let others drink wine.. Don't drink wine.... if you don't like what they say, ignore them.. they can say what they want.. you can say what you want... I can say what I want.. and I just did, I think... it really doesn't matter, does it? We all know it's subjective.. Parker knows it's subjective... get over it.

Did I forget to put the smiley face?
Cheers, Jim

Wrong board Hoke. You have to go to "Son of the son of Wine Therapy" to talk about talking about wine.

Rather odd timing, Hoke, since you waited until after the Parker thread had pretty much died out before asking this question.

Robin..much as I hate to disagree with you, I think Hoke's timing was on the money..there were several posts just minutes before he started this thread and a number of posts after he started this thread..I thinmk it is time you locked down the Parker thread and said ENOUGH!!

At the risk of being flamed... well, I enjoyed reading that thread a lot more than this one!

Of course, we might argue "if you don't like the thread, just ignore it", but the truth is that the types of discussion on a forum are part of what creates forum culture (and forum culture is one of the central issues the Parker thread was about to begin with). At least the Parker thread contributed some meaningful discussion too (e.g., on subjectivism/objectivism, blind and panel tastings, retailer/wine journalism/writer ethics), even if it did get get fiery and re-hash age-old Parker/WA issues.
