2003 St. Cosme Chateneuf du Pape
Popped and poured to toast a fallen friend who adored Rhone wines above all. And maybe it was our sadness but the wine seemed a bit harsh and primary. Too, like our friend, young to go. So after a glass we corked it up and visited it again the next day where it had relaxed and filled out nicely and was showing just a bit of secondary development and grenache-like peppery tones. So though it drank well enough eventually there's no reason to open these now; I'll give my remaining bottles at least two more years before opening another.

2008 Groth Sauvignon Blanc
Last year's Groth was full of acid and cat pee; this isn't. Instead it shows more typically Napa-like with green bean and white melon flavors and just a hint of offdryness on the finish. Good, but at $15 questionable value.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
