WTN: Crasto Vinho Tinto 2007

by Bruce Hayes » Fri May 15, 2009 10:25 am

Quinta Do Crasto
Douro

A blend of Touriga Nacional, Tinto Roriz, Touriga Franca and Tinto Barroca.

Very dark red in the glass.

Lovely nose: floral, spicy, cherry, hard red candy.

Juicy cherry, raspberry, red currants, blackberry, blueberry, cinnamon, medium weight, good acidity, smoky, inky, rich, bordering on jammy, tobacco, turning slightly drying-tannic toward the end.

Mouthwatering, tangy, lightly tannic finish.

An impressive and powerful wine.

Purchased at $14.95 (Canadian).

Had a sip of this at a wine expo last week and liked it a lot. Pretty good for a wine made from purchased grapes (they use the name Quinta do Crasto for their own grapes).

I liked even better the 2006 Flor de Castro, which the salesman said cost less than the regular Crasto.

The 2001 LBV is a lovely wine.

Bruce, I have a similar wine here from Vinhos Douro Superior which I have chilled for Wine Focus. Pretty nice stuff but need to pour another glass!
