Calling all wine enthusiasts

by Matt Sobieray » Mon May 18, 2009 12:19 pm

My student group from Portland State University is working toward making the wine industry better than it already is. The only problem is that we need your help. If you wouldn’t mind providing us with your feedback please follow the link below.

16) From which countries do you prefer to buy wine?
US
France
Germany
Italy
Austria
Peru
Australia
New Zealand
Other (please specify)

PERU???? Now I'm an adventurous wine buyer, but I have to admit that I see very little from Peru. Spain yes, South Africa yes, but Peru??

Yeah Peru is odd. I tend to avoid surveys with such obvious flaws.

is this for real?

Chablis a variety?

Those income categories seem silly.

Seems like a marketing survey for Williamette Valley wines done by middle school kids.

Indeed a very seriously flawed questionnaire .......some answers too limiting, others too broad, several errors (Bordeauc and Chablis as varieties), etc, etc...... Wanted to be cooperate but indeed the questionnaire is so faulted that I found that impossible.

Even if true, Tom, that's an awfully rough personal attack on a newbie. Care to try moderating your prose?

It does say variety of wine, not wine varieties. So I think Chablis and Chardonnay are distinct enough as varieties of wine, at least in many peoples eyes. And Bordeaux is spelt right Rogov.

But I agree - Peru? No Spain, Argentina, Chile....

I looked but could not find - maybe Willamette Valley Vineyards sponsored this years Wine and Roses function that the Portland State Athletic team (Vikings) held in February. Not sure why the website is still advertising a long gone function, but that is another story.

I could not answer as I live in the wrong place.
Cheers,
Neil Courtney

Very odd survey. Looks like it was put together after reading one article. What the heck, I finished it even though a lot did not make sense.

Maybe I've become too cybercynical but I'm surprised that any of you (us) would click on a link provided by someone we don't know :!:

Indeed there a few folk I know whose links I wouldn't follow
Your point is very valid though Oswaldo.

On a side note, wouldn't it be wonderful if someone wanting to do such research, contacted the forum owner to seek permission. That way, the initial post could be accompanied by a note saying (in this case Robin) the forum owner was aware and had given their approval. It happens occasionally, and when it does, the responses from wine forum regulars are very much more supportive, positive and keen to help.

Very good point Ian. That is the way the UK forum handles this kind of thread.
