Wine on Old Time Radio

You may have to be American to get this, but....

While travelling this weekend, we heard an old episode of American comedian Jack Benny's radio show recorded in the 40's. In this one, the performers (Jack, his wife Mary Livingston, and actor Tyrone Power) were supposed to be travelling in Paris and trying to select a wine to pay the requisite cover charge at some kind of Follies type performance. Forever-cranky Jack refused to attempt to read the bulky book of a wine menu and instead demanded the sommelier just tell him which champagnes were available.

"Messieur, I have zee Dom Perignon 28, zee Heidieck 20, and [accent drops] Notre Dame 27."
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
