WTN: Harbour Estates "Sunrise" Vidal-Chardonnay 2007

by Bruce Hayes » Mon May 18, 2009 6:52 pm

Niagara Penninsula

Medium yellow in the glass.

Peaches on the nose.

Light weight, hints of peach, green apple, orange, apricot, pear, floral notes, good acidity toward the end. This was an interesting blend and one I had not seen before and I really wanted to like it but I just couldn't: the wine lacked weight and intensity and often came across as thin and watery. What a disappointment.

Tangy finish, with hints of peach and citrus fruit.

Purchased at $11.15 (Canadian).

Your experience with this is a bit of a surprise to me for a few reasons. 2007 was an excellent growing year for the area. While I've never blended Vidal with Chardonnay (and I don't think I would), I have often blended it with other hybrid grapes, both white and red. This usually results in an improvement in the mouthfeel. Too bad.
Chico - Hey! This Bottle is empty!
Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.
