2007 Rueda (Blanco) Con Class, Sitios de Bodega (Spain):
After having a couple delightful glasses of Verdejo based Rueda this past weekend at the Elephant tapas bar in Kingston, NY (a nice place to eat and drink if you are visting the Hudson Valley) I noted to myself the need to explore this grape further. Unfortunately, I neglected to remember the exact wines I had, so I pulled this one from the shelf for further investigations. Turns out this one is only 60% Verdejo, with the balance being Viura (25%) and Sauvingnon Blanc (15%). Pink grapefruit nose, more grapefruit on the palate, joined by lime and grassy notes. Bracing and fresh, but a bit simple and short. Nice wine for $10, but nothing special. It seems like the SB might be dominating the mix, even at 15%. Oh, organic grapes; 12.5% abv.
