WTN: Saturday BBQ

by Bruce Hayes » Sun May 31, 2009 9:48 am

Another couple came over for dinner Saturday and Debbie BBQ a roast pork with a Mexican rub.

With snacks before supper.

Cristalino Brut Nature 2005 Cava
Finca El Padruell/Juame Serra
A blend of Macabeo, Parellada and Chardonnay.

Good forthy mousse
Golden in the glass.
Crisp acidity, lemon, green apple, nutty, lightly maderized note to it all.
Clean finish with tangy citrus rind.
Purchased at $16.95 (Canadian).

Taltarni Brut Tache 2005
Pyranees, Victoria
A blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.

A lovely salmon, copper color in the glass.
Honeyed, strawberry, raspberry, good acidity, refreshing and clean, quite fruity, with a mild bitter streak.
Purchased at $22.75 (Canadian).

With the roast pork.

Fuzion Chenin Blanc-Chardonnay 2008
Familia Zuccardi
Mendoza

Spicy, citrus rind and floral on the nose.
Juicy and fleshy lime, lemon, orange blossom, peppery, good acidity, refreshing, floral, intense and rich, medium weight.
Peppery and mouthwatering on the finish.
A very nice summer wine, particularly for the price.
Purchased at $7.45 (Canadian).

Bruce, I was struck by your description of the Taltarni. Kind of odd that a wine called Brut Tache would merit a description that begins "honeyed", isn't it? I might be grabbing at straws here, but it looks like validation of what I've been saying about Taltarni upping the RS in this wine. It used, I am positive, to be drier than it has seemed in the last couple years.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
