WTN: Should have saved it for Salil

by David M. Bueker » Thu Jun 04, 2009 8:31 pm

1998 Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese
Opened this for dinner along tonight. It's always more fun to open great bottles with friends.

Drinking extraordinarily well, though the bottle had been in the uncontrolled portion of my basement for a bout a year, so who knows if that advanced it a little bit into beauty. Fruit, cream & spice all tinged with a bit of petrol. Outstanding persistence and balance.

Sounds fantastic - and thanks for the thought.

Got to try leftovers tonight before dinner and it did taste just as good as it was described. Thanks David.

(Will also add that it was far lighter on its feet than I imagined - I did mention that if that wine had been made in 07, it would have still felt a little light compared to many of the modern Kabinetts.)
