WTN: Hill Castle Hill Riesling Late Harvest Half Dry

by David M. Bueker » Wed Jun 10, 2009 8:21 pm

2000 Weingut Josef Leitz Rüdesheimer Berg Schloßberg Riesling Spätlese Halbtrocken
a few years ago this wine was in a very odd place. It really didn't taste good at all. That's all changed now, as the fruit has come back, it has added richness and a touch of creaminess, and become a complete wine that isn't all that different from the current "harmoniously dry" idiom of some vaunted Mosel and Saar producers. Laura even liked it, and she is not one for dry Riesling (and at 9 years of age this wine is essentially dry).

Great title, and sounds really nice - especially for a 2000!

Indeed. At first glance I thought it was some strange Finger Lakes riesling.
