WTN Wykari wines

A boutique label from the northern end of the Clare Valley. They make a riesling, and a cabernet sauvignon.

Wykari Riesling, 2008, Clare Valley (South Australia)
Full bodied, but clean and firm with a long acid finish. Flavours of green grass, lime zest and new mown hay; a little kerosene on the nose. Full flavoured without being fruity. Very different from the pale, lean and delicate rieslings of Watervale and Polish Hill River. Would complement flavoursome fish or spicy Asian food well, and may be a candidate for ageing.

Wykari cabernet sauvignon, 2005, Clare Valley (South Australia)
Smooth and plush, with no tannins to speak of. A soft, fragrant, easy to drink red. Fresh plum, green leaves, a little mintiness at the edge, and a hint of something that may develop into eucalyptus in time. My personal preference is for something a bit more muscular, but it is a pleasant drink and I think has potential to capture drinkers whose preference is for a soft, round, fruity-driven wine. It is leaner and more elegant than the soft and fruity reds at the cheap end of town, and could provide an alternative pathway for those wanting to go further upmarket without losing the softness.
