2005 Simon Bize Savigny-les-Beaune Aux Vergelesses 1er Cru 12.5%
Had a rough day yesterday, so while I haven't been drinking much while my daughter is visiting (makes me sleepy), last night I decided to splurge, with measure, by opening this solitary half bottle. Not an inspired choice. Aroma was high-toned cherry with, surprisingly, lots of alcohol blocking the preception of anything else. Good acidity, chunky mid-palate, pleasant tannins, but not giving much on the organoleptic front. Closed or tightly wound, it improves with food, though alcohol continues to intrude. Needs a ton of time, but I didn't see glimpses of anything that would make me want to buy more. Should have opened something more mature and left the remainder in the fridge.
