My soap smells .....corked.

by Tim York » Sun Jun 28, 2009 2:55 pm

A couple of years ago I complained about a loaf of bread which tasted corked.

This time it is my soap which smells corked, wet cardboard veering to mushrooms. This was a couple of bars of luxury soap received as a present. The first bar smelled brightly refreshing throughout and the second started fine. Half used, however, it has developed this corked smell. What is going on?

The soap comes from.......Portugal.

Be worried when friends give you soap as a present...

Seriously though. whilst it's true that many items can take on TCA (cardboard being one of them), we (well especially me!) can be fooled by similar smelling compounds. What were the stated scents for the soaps?

Of course this would be helped if you could give us a tasting note on the soap. Make sure you give it a good gargle and indeed it could be timed with a visit by the in-laws, greet them mid-gargle for full effect.
