Kaikan
Mendoza
Kaiken is Chile's Montes venture into Argentina.
Decanted about five minutes before supper.
Dark purple in the glass.
Initially, nothing at all on the nose. With time, the nose opened up beautifully, revealing raspberry, pencil lead, smoke, chocolate and floral notes.
Tangy, medium bodied, black cherry, raspberry, charred, drying, tarry, dark chocolate, roasted, spicy, cinnamon, red licorice, cedar.
The wine softened and broadened quite quickly in the decanter, showing richer fruit, but maintaining the tangy edge and a bit of tannin.
Mouthwatering and drying on the finish.
A very nice wine that, in my estimation, would improve with six to eight months in the cellar.
Purchased at $19.95 (Canadian).
