WTN: 2000 Prieure Roch NSG Clos des Corvees

Close des Corvees is a Monopole in the Nuits St. George, and I recall that there was something else notable about this wine when I bought it, that the owner or winemaker is someone famous' son. Perhaps a member of the Leroy family. It's been in my cellar for several years but I've not had the wine before. And should have, because I think it's a bit long in the tooth: spicy Burgundian nose with raspberries, mushrooms and earth on the palate. We were sipping this with a young clove/cumin gouda which was a terrific match, but the wine didn't hold up. Might have been a flawed bottle though: it poured very cloudy, and got cloudier with air time concurrent with the fruit dropping out and dirt-earth flavors completely taking over, and not in a good way. I have one more bottle: will plan to drink that soon, and will report back if the second is a better bottle.

I believe Henri-Frédéric Roch owns the winery and is also co-owner of DRC.

In the 1990s their winemaker was Philippe Pacalet and his uncle is Marcel Lapierre.

If I remember correctly, they are also biodynamic, not so common in Burgundy, so there may have been minimal sulphur, perhaps explaining the poor longevity. This winery seemed a darling of Parisian wine bars in February.

Yes, according to Dressner's write-up he left Prieuré-Roch in 1999.
