Burgundy, France My Bastille Day wine.
13% alcohol
Cork was moldy under the seal and soaked most of its length but was extracted intact.
Viscosity,
Dark purple-red color; semi-opaque. Herbal bouquet underlies dark fruit on the nose. The palate reveals juicy dark cherries and blueberry and the smooth velvet texture characteristic of Volnay. Sturdy enough for a groundbeef casserole with tomato sauce. Would also complement duck breast in cherry sauce.
In a good drinking window now. I'm not sure if further cellaring would add or detract from the appeal but I may have one more bottle of this lurking to try at ten years.
I just saw that K&D Wine and Spirits lists the 2005 vintage of this wine at $155! I'm sure I paid nothing like that for the 2002s.
