WTN: 2007 Thevenet Morgon Revisited

by Oswaldo Costa » Tue Jul 21, 2009 7:04 am

2007 Jean-Paul Thevenet Morgon Vieilles Vignes 13.0%
My only bottle of this, brought back from Paris, was disappointing last month. Because of its youth, the flaws were not pronounced enough to qualify clearly a bad bottle, so I decided to give Thevenet the benefit of the doubt and try a second bottle sourced elsewhere.

Lovely aromas, evolving from church spices and plum to sour cherry and leather. Good acidity, matched by lush fruit, good body, all slightly marred by a bitter finish (perhaps because served at 20C instead of the recommended 16C) that later evolved into a sensation of nerve. Should be particularly delicious at age 5.

So, the first bottle was clearly off, and the lights have turned green for putting away half a case of this sunny wine for a rainy day.

Glad to hear this Oswaldo. I like the idea of "nerve" in a wine. Sometimes if wine shows me liveliness it's more than enough. Is this wine available in the US?

It usually is. Kermit Lynch imports it.

Wine-searcher shows a few sources, but not sure which states can ship to KY!
