WTN: 2004 Donnhoff Niederhauser Hermannshohle Spatlese

I'm always looking for something creative to prepare with our abundant zucchini crop, and rock shrimp with zucchini in a saffron sauce with pasta was tonight's dinner. I thought about finishing last night's Papapietro Perry Pinot Noir, but a sip told me it wasn't going to work. A white wine was needed for this dish and the Donnhoff was within reach.

It was a superb bottle. Crisp, nicely acidic with just a hint of pineapple and a glimmer of petrol. Long and delicious, and a successful pairing with the saffron flavored sauce.

Sounds perfect. And the wine seemed very comfortable and integrated and 'all-together'?

Might have to investigate this one. Oh maybe not, there's lots of other vintages to choose from.

The wine appeared to be losing its baby fat, and if "not altogether," it is at least "coming together." I was very pleased with it, and, as I said, it was within reach, so I didn't even consider something else. It was nice for a change to not obscess over which wine to open for dinner.
