Sampling 2 S France reds!

by Bob Parsons Alberta » Tue Aug 11, 2009 8:31 pm

Had a couple of hours to kill this afternoon so popped into my fave winestore! Thankfully a rep was there pouring some new listings from France and I was invited to the tasting. Two wines really stood out....>

WTN: `05 Galus, Costieres de Nimes, SCEA Fessy-Pacquet.

One does not see too many wines from this appellation. Carignon and usual suspects, dark purple in color, nose was violets, spice and plum. Low tannins, medium length, some thought tad bitter on the finish. Plums and red fruits, really needed some food. $18 Cdn not too bad.

WTN: `05 Astrolabe Malbec Cahors, Vinovalie.

Appears that this is a group of four local coops that are producing a number of wines. This malbec had some great fruit concentration, pretty well full-bodied, ample tannins but again needed some food. Biased? No way, this is a good Cahors for around $22 Cdn. Might need a while in the cellar?
